OUR ATHLETES EXPERIENCES
This section provides a range of interesting stories by students relating to their Triathlon experiences.
My name is Amelia Pearson, I grew up in Ulverstone and I now live in Devonport. I started triathlon when I was 14years old because my older brother, Josh, was doing them. I was already in the Ulverstone Surf Club and swam with the Ulverstone Swim Team so the swimming part was easy for me. It took me a little longer to learn to ride a bike and running off the bike, well that was tough!! Gradually over the years I improved and started training under my long time coach, Craig Redman. Over the past 5 years I have competed at the elite level in Sprint, Olympic, Half Ironman and Ironman races against the best girls in the world.
The things I love about triathlon is that because it is three sports rolled into one there is always something to improve on. My favourite leg changes all the time! I love the challenge training hard, giving my best and seeing how fast I can go. I have also had a wonderful opportunity to travel all around Australia and the World to race, I love it.Kind Regards
I used to compete in running and had a swimming background which I gave up a couple of years earlier, but decided to give a triathlon a go and went well in the run but was really bad at swimming and riding so started swimming again and riding on a regular basis and improved those two legs. I like the rage of training and every day is something different. I really enjoy the atmosphere and the people that do it and it’s a really tough sport which keeps me motivated to do well.
I used to do Surf Life Saving but during winter I suffered a shoulder injury and couldn't use that arm for 4 months. I spent a lot of that winter doing one arm drills, I also took up running and riding, when I got back into swimming it was a while before I could do it properly so I just kept riding and running and in the end I went to triathlon instead of back to Surf.
Triathlon is a great sport, I love the training and the variety in what you can do to train for each different leg, when you race an itu race it’s so hard yet rewarding. I have made heaps of new friends from the sport and the coaches are really good to.
